Gerald W. “Butch” Atterberry, age 62, of Elwood, Nebraska died on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. He was born on July 6, 1947, at Lexington, Nebraska to Allie & Betty J. (Snider) Atterberry.

He attended school at Lexington High School and graduated with the Class of 1965. He went on to McCook Junior College, McCook, Nebraska and received his Associates Degree. He was drafted into the U.S. Marines and served from 1969 to 1971 in Vietnam. After his discharge from service, he went back to school at Kearney State College and graduated in 1975 with his business degree. He worked for Banks Clothing, at Lexington, Nebraska in retail sales for many years. He married Maria M. Bliven on October 21, 1977 at Pierre, South Dakota. They made their home in Lexington, Nebraska until 1998. They would then move to Elwood, Nebraska. In 2003, he went to work for Walmart, in Lexington. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, in Lexington, Nebraska. He was a member and former Commander for the American Legion Post #290 of Elwood, Nebraska

He is preceded in death by parents, and sister Judy Brummett.

He is survived by his wife Maria Atterberry of Elwood, Nebraska

                                       Nicole Atterberry of Elwood, Nebraska

                                       Megan & husband Wayco Oaklund of Bertrand, Nebraska

Grandchildren: 5      Cala & Kianna Clouse, Brielle & Alyssa Schutz, Carina Atterberry

Viewing & visitation will be Friday, May 14 from 10 AM till 4 PM at Elwood Funeral Home, Elwood, Nebraska. Rosary will be Friday, May 14 at 7 PM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, in Lexington, Nebraska. Funeral mass will be Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 10 AM at the St. Ann’s Catholic Church, in Lexington, Nebraska with Father Paul Colling, officiating. Interment will be at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery, in Lexington, Nebraska. Military rites to be given by American Legion Post #290 of Elwood, Nebraska.
