Allan Keith Wylie, age 87, formerly of Elwood, Nebraska passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7,
2024 at Wes Des Moines, Iowa. He was born on December 19, 1936, in Minden, Nebraska to Ford and
Elizabeth (Ford) Wylie.
After a brief time in Hot Springs, South Dakota, and Lexington, Nebraska, he returned home to Elwood
where he graduated from Elwood High School in 1955 and spent his remaining years until he moved
to West Des Moines, Iowa in 2019.
Allan was known for his love of family, sports and faith. His hallmarks were a simple lifestyle and even-
keeled demeanor.
His legacy as a hardworking farmer, a role he inherited and cherished, is remembered by all who knew
him. A proud Husker and Elwood Pirates fan, Allan’s presence was a staple at Elwood’s athletic events.
His commitment to faith was exemplified by his perfect church attendance during childhood, which
continued over the years. He was a loving son and an involved and attentive big brother and uncle. He
never had to be asked to help out, he just did whatever needed to be done.
Allan never married. He is survived by four sisters, Dorothy Naxera, Lois Lyons, Janet Ourada and
Teresa Volcheck; one brother, Richard Lauhead, and a loving extended family of nieces, nephews,
great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth
Nelson; father, Ford Wylie; brothers, Roger Lauhead, Mark Nelson, and Michael Nelson; and nephew,
Markeith Hodgson.
The family extends gratitude for the care provided by The Bickford of West Des Moines. A memorial
service will be held at the Elwood Methodist Church in Elwood, Nebraska, on Friday, June 14, 2024, at
10am with Pastor Sarah Herman, officiating. Inurnment will follow at Elwood Cemetery, Elwood,
Nebraska. Donations in Allan’s memory can be made to the American Cancer Society. Elwood Funeral
