David L. West, age 77, of Elwood, Nebraska, passed away on July 9th, 2022, at the Kearney Regional Hospital, Kearney, Nebraska. He was born November 28th, 1944, to Clyde & Louise (Coker) West, Los Angeles, California. David grew up in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and attended school at Scottsbluff High School thru the 10th grade. He would then attend Nebraska Christian School at Central City, Nebraska and graduated with the class of 1963. After his schooling, he married Brenda Netherland on April 10, 1964, at Scottsbluff, Nebraska. To this union two children were born; Jim in 1965 and Stacy in 1967. He worked for Gurley Telephone Company before going to work with Nebraska Public Power while they lived in Brady, Gothenburg, and later in 1976 they moved to Elwood, Nebraska. David and Brenda would open West Drive-In in 1981 and owned for a number of years. He would also work for the Elwood Care Center and Walmart in Lexington. Hunting and fishing were a couple of his favorite pastimes. He looked forward to the annual deer hunting with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved working the door at Walmart and talking with all the people coming and going. David was preceded in death by his parents, sister Barbara Stackhouse, sister-in-law Carol West. David is survived by his wife Brenda West of Elwood, Nebraska, son Jim (Syndee) West of Wymore, Nebraska; Stacy (Roger) Schneider of Elwood, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, Chris West, Austin West, Samantha Houseman, Karen Schneider, Kevin Schneider, Emalee Maxson, Jacob Oblinger, Jalan Fields; and 8 great grandchildren, brother Dennis West of San Jacinto, California, sister LeAnne (Josh) Skavdahl of Harrison, Nebraska. There will be no viewing or visitation as cremation was chosen. Memorial service will be Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 2 PM at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Elwood, Nebraska with Pastor Aaron Witt, officiating.
