Donald John Foss, age 90, of Elwood, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the Elwood Care Center,
Elwood, Nebraska. He was born on February 13, 1927 to John Charles and Hilda (Pfeiffer) Foss on the family farm in
Gosper County, Nebraska.
Don grew up on the farm and graduated from Elwood High School. After his schooling, he served in the U.S. Army during
the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He came back to Elwood and married Norma Randolph on January
11, 1959 at Salem Lutheran Church south of Elwood. To this union 4 children were born; Doug, Roger, Jennifer, and infant
daughter who passed at birth. They farmed for many years on the family farm. He also served as Gosper County
Commissioner for several terms.
Don and Norma were faithful followers of Elwood High School Athletics, they received an award from the Elwood Booster
Club for this honor. They followed their children and grandchildren for many years in all their activities. He was a member
of the Elwood Lion’s Club, American Legion, & Salem Lutheran Church before transferring his membership to Our
Redeemer Lutheran Church. He enjoyed neighborhood card club, dancing, and a founding member of the Udder Bunch.
Don is survived by his wife Norma of Elwood, Nebraska, sons: Doug & wife Barb Foss of Elwood, Nebraska & Roger &
wife Kelli Foss of Wichita, Kansas, daughter: Jennifer & husband Craig Ward of Elwood, Nebraska, sister: Laurine Nitz
of Coco, Florida, 8 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, and sister Irene Weissert.
Viewing & visitation will be Tuesday, June 13, 2017 from 4 PM till 8 PM with family present from 6 PM till 8 PM at Our
Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood, Nebraska and prior to the services at the church. Funeral services will be
Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 10 AM at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood, Nebraska with Pastor Michael Wolff,
officiating. Interment will be at the Salem West Cemetery at Elwood, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the Elwood
Lion’s Club, VFW, and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Elwood Funeral Home of Elwood, Nebraska is in charge of the
