Loyle Lee Debban, age 85, of Elwood, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Elwood
Care Center, Elwood, Nebraska with his wife Hazel by this side. He was born on April 27, 1939, at Elwood
Hospital to Martin and Francis (Oyler) Debban of Eustis, Nebraska and was the oldest of seven children.
Loyle was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church on May 28, 1939, and later confirmed at Salem. He attended
grade school at Salem and graduated from Holbrook High School, and then joined the US Navy, serving on
a Naval ship. While at the Naval Training Center in SanDiego, California, Company 59-552, he was awarded
the title of “Honorman” for his unit, being the sailor with the highest-grade point (GPA) in his class of 58
enlisted men. He also attended Electrician’s school while in the Navy.
Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned home to the family farm in Frontier County. He married
Hazel Mae Haney of Elwood on August 22, 1965, and they made their home on the family farm where Loyle
continued to farm and work outside of the home. To this union came Clint Lee and Lisa Mae.
Loyle also worked for Wilson Grain, Frontier County Road Department, Wendland and Nott Land Leveling
prior to moving to Elwood in 1984, where he worked for Lynn’s Digger Service and retiring as a bus driver for
Elwood Public Schools. His students ranged from preschool to high school. One of his nurses at the Care
Home was someone he taught while driving the preschool bus.
He was a jack of all trades, doing various odd jobs in the community for people. He was involved with the
Gosper County Fair setup, Legion Stand, and carnival for many years.
Loyle was a twenty-one-year member of the American Legion Post 209, serving on the Honor Guard for all
twenty-one years. He assisted with the flagpole memorials and put up the flags for Memorial Day for many
years.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Hazel; son Clint (Barb) of Bennington, and daughter Lisa Mae
of Kearney; three granddaughters- Gabriel, Susannah, Marleelynn, all of Bennington; brothers Dwight
Debban of Arizona, and Rick (Kendra) Debban of Greeley, Colorado, sisters Sue (Harold) Carlson of
McCook, Nebraska, Mary Lou Rupe of Arizona, Jean (Greg) Wolf of Eustis, Nebraska, brother-in-law Stan
(Nancy) Haney of Grand Island, sister-in-law Vesta Liehs of Lexington, brother-in-law Gayln Olnhausen of
Eustis, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Ellen Olnhausen, brother-in-law Wes Liehs, and extended
family members.
Graveside services will be Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11 AM at the Elwood Cemetery, Elwood,
Nebraska. Elwood Funeral Home of Elwood, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
