Muriel Claire Kotschwar, age 89, of Farnam, Nebraska, passed away on June 8th, 2022, at the
Elwood Care Center, Elwood, Nebraska. She was born March 29th, 1933, to Henry & Hester
(Carman) Gewecke, northwest of Farnam, Nebraska.
She graduated from Farnam High School in 1950. Attended grades 1-3 at a rural school north
of Ingham NE, grades 4 -12 in Farnam NE. Then attended summer school at Kearney State
College.
In August 1953 she married Leon Kotschwar, to this union four children were born, Brent, Lana,
Perry, Bryan. Muriel taught at Rural Schools for 6 years. Her first school experience was a school
of 17 boys and one girl north of Gothenburg.
She worked many years for surrounding newpapers as a news correspondent and in the
advertising field. She loved the interaction with people in different communities.
She was a member of the Farnam United Methodist Church, serving on various church boards.
She enjoyed being involved in a lot of community organizations, Economic Development,
Founders Day, Welcome Wagon, and various clubs. Muriel loved and cared about people of all
ages, she enjoyed visiting people in care facilities to help brighten their day. Muriel did not
know a stranger!
Muriel is survived by her children: Brent (Peggy) Kotschwar of Omaha, Nebraska; Lana (Nick)
Cate of Peachtree City, Georgia; Perry Kotschwar of Elwood, Nebraska; Bryan (Nancy) Kotschwar
of Big Springs, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, Kurt (Angela) Kotschwar, Allison (Matt)
Hilderbrand, Brennan, Bennett, Ryan Cate, Trenton (Jessica) Kotschwar, Lindsey (Marcus) Little,
Grace Kotschwar; and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial has been established in Muriel’s memory to the Farnam United Methodist Church
or to the family for later designation at 802 Smith Ave Elwood NE 68937.
Viewing and visitation will be Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 2 PM till 5 PM at Farnam United
Methodist Church, Farnam, Nebraska with family present from 3 PM till 5 PM. Funeral service
will be Monday, June 13, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Farnam United Methodist Church of Farnam,
Nebraska with Pastor Duncan Ibuuri, officiating. Burial will follow at the Farnam Cemetery,
Farnam, Nebraska. Elwood Funeral Home of Elwood, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
